History of Red Rocks Amphitheatre
The natural amphitheater in which the music venue is located began to take shape more than 200 million years ago when sediment-spreading alluvial fans deposited the rocky monoliths that form the park. In 1928, when Denver purchased the park and it was renamed to its current name, entrepreneur John Brisben Walker had the idea to create a stage to accommodate artists performing in this acoustic wonderland.
He was able to build the permanent stage in 1941 after hiring architect Burnham Hoyt, who modeled it on the Theatre of Dionysus at the Acropolis in Athens. He also designed a series of sharply tiered rows of seats that allow for amazing views of the amphitheater from every seat in the house.
During the 1970s, Red Rocks Amphitheatre was involved in one of Colorado’s most famous musical incidents when police fought off fans who crashed through its gates during a Jethro Tull concert. It was a brawl that led to a five-year ban on concerts at the venue.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a spectacular open-air amphitheatre constructed into a huge rock formation in the northern United States, some ten miles west of Morrison, Colorado. It’s name comes from the red mineral color of the rocks that make up the structure. The amphitheatre has hosted many popular rock concerts, including favorites by the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith. In addition to concerts, the Red Rocks also offers a series of movies that have shown at the venue. Most of these films have been successful in their goal of creating a fan base in the area.
A Red Rocks concert is a great time to be in Colorado. The temperature during the summer can be stifling, but June and July are the warmest months. The natural beauty of the area is also well known for producing year-round entertainment. Many movies have been held at this venue as well. Some of the most popular September concerts include “A Christmas Story”,” Brave” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”.
The Red Rocks Park is Denver’s largest park. Like most of the country, Denver boasts a large number of parks; Red Rocks Park is one of them. The majority of the park is located on the Colorado River near the southern edge of town. Red Rocks Park is the main site for all weekend and extended-stay camping options. There are also several picnic facilities at the park.
Although the primary intent of the park is to showcase the Colorado red rock mountains, it has been transformed into an outdoor cinema. For this reason, it’s one of the most visited sites in the Denver area. The amphitheatre, which seats around 6,450 people, provides a scenic backdrop for all events, live music, movies and special presentations.
Although the Red Rocks is a renowned concert and cultural landmark, it is also an ideal place for photographers, weddings, families and anyone else who want to enjoy the Colorado weather and scenery. For a family-friendly weekend, Red Rocks is the perfect choice. You can drive up to the venue, look around for free activities and dine outdoors on one of the several dining locations.
